What if we told you that among the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea there is a small, but extremely charming island, inhabited by only a few dozen inhabitants? Yes, this place really exists. We guarantee that Tabarca, because we are talking about this island, will delight you in every possible way!

We went to the Island of Tabarca from the Port of Santa Pola, because from here the cruises are the shortest and take place most often. From the very beginning of the trip, you can feel the truly Spanish atmosphere! From the booths where you buy tickets for the cruise, you can hear loud calls – Hurry up! We are leaving in less than 10 minutes! However, don't be fooled – cruises take place more or less every half hour, so there is certainly enough space for everyone.

The trip to this paradise place cost us 10 euros/adult round trip and took only 25 minutes. We chose boat transport, but we can also choose between a catamaran and a motorboat. The trip went really great – there was a mini bar and toilets on the boat, and at the very end we could go below deck and watch the fish swimming.

The waters around the island are known for their crystal clarity, you can find beautiful corals, rare species of fish, crabs and starfish – so it's worth being a close observer of the seabed!

The island is wonderful – a bit harsh, not destroyed by tourism, it wonderfully reflects the atmosphere of real Spain.

Tabarca, although small, is divided into two parts, connected by a narrow isthmus in which the port is located. Each part is worth seeing:

• The eastern part is uninhabited and there is the Isla de Tabarca lighthouse, a cemetery and the ruins of a fort and bird nesting grounds. The whole is overgrown with beautiful dune vegetation and prickly pears.

• The western part, is inhabited and occupied by the settlement of Isla Plana o Nueva Tabarca. The eye is immediately caught by the charming, old fisherman's architecture with a church and a charming market.

To sum up, Tabarca is the perfect place for a day trip from the city. You can walk the entire length and breadth of the island in 2 hours, and every part of it is picturesquely beautiful! We advise you to take water shoes with you, because the beach is rocky and an umbrella to catch some shade while sightseeing and sunbathing. We don't know a person who wouldn't be delighted with this paradise island.
