Castle of San Fernando
A little-known castle on a hill with a cool view of Alicante. No crowds, no tickets - perfect for a quick walk and a moment of breath.
This is one of those places that hardly anyone talks about, which is a shame - because if you are already in Alicante, it is worth just dropping by.
The Castle of San Fernando is not a "pretty castle" in the classical sense. There are no restored interiors, exhibitions or wow effect like Santa Bárbara. In practice, it is a large area surrounded by walls and the remains of old buildings.
But... It has one big advantage - peace and space.
It is located on Tossal Hill, a little to the side, so mainly those who know what they are going for come here. Thanks to this, there are no crowds, you can walk along the walls in a relaxed way, sit on a bench and see Alicante from a slightly different perspective - more everyday than touristy.
It's more of a quick stop than a half-day item.
It is best to combine this with a walk around the bullring: the entrance is close and the characteristic lions at the gate will immediately tell you that you are there.
In a Nutshell:
If you have a moment and like such less obvious places - it's worth it.
If you are hoping for spectacular sightseeing – it is better to stay at Santa Bárbara.
We? We like to come here for this ease and lack of people.
