Barrio de Santa Cruz
Narrow streets, colorful houses and flowers literally everywhere. The prettiest part of Alicante - perfect for a walk without a plan.
Barrio de Santa Cruz is the oldest district of the city, located at the foot of Benacantil Hill. The network of narrow, winding streets is a bit like a labyrinth - once you go up, sometimes down, sometimes instead of the road, there are stairs, and around each bend there is a different frame.
White houses, colourful doors, shutters, and a lot of plants - pots stand in front of the entrances, hang on the walls, decorate the balconies. Everything is neat, but not "for tourists" - rather naturally, just someone lives here and likes it to be nice.
This place tastes best without a plan.
Without checking where to go next.
Just turn into the first better street and allow yourself to get a little lost.
If you are going to the Castle of Santa Bárbara, be sure to pass through here on the way.
And if not, it's still worth a look, if only for a moment.
Because it is here that Alicante has its most beautiful, most "real" atmosphere.
